Most Outdoor or Semi-outdoor LCD, with or without touch screens, for digital signage, public information display, information kiosk among others, run on transmissive LCD panel. These screens need a very high brightness LED backlight. In other words, they consume large amount of energy to power the LCD to be legible against outdoor sunlight.

Transmissive LCD will filter out 93% of total light coming out from the LED backlight. That is why to power a LCD that is able to read under bright sunlight condition, a 43″ device can consume roughly 120kWh based on 8 hrs/day and 30 days/month operation. Other than high power consumption, the side effect of such driving method will increase heat generation, and in turn, many outdoor device need a cooling system inside the unit. Usually, these type of cooling systems are fans, which produce noise. And with additional power supply, fans and LED backlights, the whole system becomes mechanically thick and heavy. Finally, with many peripherals, comes maintenance cost.
Today we have a solution to present. A LCD that is capable to perform for outdoor use in broad daylight. Due to this technology, it no longer require LED backlight which is power-hungry. All it need is a front-light if you need it for night use. Due to absence of LED backlight, heat generation is less, and there is no need for a cooling system. And the material selected when making this LCD is able to function at temperature of -20C to +70C .
